The Glories of Hearing Prahlad Charitra
-Srila Gurudeva
18 May: From the holy life of Prahlad, we can learn the meaning of bhagavata-dharma, devotional service to the Lord, by which one can attain the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Someone who hears, reads or recites the holy description of the supreme potency of Lord Vishnu with faith will become liberated from the bondage of karma. Anyone who hears or reads, with full attention, this pastime of Lord Vishnu, Who in His form of Nrisimha killed the lord of the demons, will become free from all fears and ultimately attain Vaikuntha dhama, the transcendental abode of the Lord.
The holy life of Prahald is described in the Seventh Cant of Srimad Bhagavatam, while that of Dhruva is narrated in the Fourth Canto. Sri Gadadhara Pandit used to give discourses on these pastimes by reading from Srimad Bhagavatam. Sri Gaurasundara used to listen to Sri Gadadhara’s description of the devotional practices of Prahlad and Dhruva hundreds of times with great attention.
